In 2020, with our original cameras reaching the end of their lives and our video management system desperately needing an upgrade, LSC embarked on its first large-scale capital campaign in a decade.  The goals are as follows:

  • Replace all 170 LSC cameras with new 4-lens 4k resolution cameras.
  • Replace and upgrade all LSC server room and monitoring room equipment, allowing for the best advantage to be made of the new cameras.
  • Move LSC cameras to new third-party fiber so that we can generate higher-quality evidence.
  • Provide five years of financial support for improved and more efficient operations.
  • Add at least 24 new camera locations, focusing on areas of greatest need, where people movement has greatly increased since 2009, and where the public expects a greater degree of safety (parks, schools, event spaces).

Thanks to the work of some stalwart community volunteers and many very generous donors, the Coalition was able to raise the necessary funds to overhaul all physical aspects of our operation.  From 2020-2022, LSC replaced all existing camera locations and components in our server room.  LSC is still working with its partners to gain access to stronger and faster fiber connections that will further improve camera performance and allow for further expansion.

New Camera Location Highlight:  Milburn Park

Installed in 2023, our Milburn Park camera shows off what we can now see with the new cameras.  Four high-resolution lenses capture the entirety of the park.  On a daily basis, this camera is used to help protect city children using the park and making their way to and from school.  We have also used this camera to assist with cases of many types, including everything from illegal dumping to assault.
